fantastic job chris:) 5 stars
Finally! A car render to get excited about. Please for the sake of others who are presenting their car renders to the gallery, post some more info, higher res images and other words of advice/inspiration.
I love the classic retro look of this image. I haven't done this in awhile ... but 5 stars for a car render! Well done.
"well done! My friend...I say, How much for the car...?"...lolol well done i love the whole feel of the image and the car is just sweet...keep it up

Taschen/Jim Heimann has a great compendium of ad work from each decade of the 20th century. (http://www.taschen.com/pages/en/catalogue/icons/all/03267/facts.all_american_ads_60s.htm)
You nailed the splashey optimism of those 60's car ads.

I normally am not impressed by car renderings, since there are so many damn many of them, but this! wow man, great work. I love that it's not over the top, the futuristic touch is really subdued and makes it a truly great image.

waaa.... impressive..... felicidades
Outstanding! I agree with what's already been said about how you've captured a great retro look. There's a rich, nostalgic charm to the lighting, and a curiously quirky treatment to the subject and its composition. I'd love to see a higher res version.
It's a delight to see work like this, that steps far outside the norm, yet harnesses imagery that feels distantly familiar.
5*!

Oww, it's really like me, remaind me some stuff from Syd Mead art, nice! Very climatic, how You achieve this set of collors, and this warm profile? this is postproduction, or this is directly from Maya renderer? You have some golden mean for this ? Would You show some wireframe stuff, lights etc?

Whoa, thanks everyone! I'm glad you are getting something out of it.
Here (http://www.thunig.com/content_01/images/work/mp_036_ax.jpg) is a higher res version of the image.
Here (http://www.thunig.com/bin/mp_036_b.jpg) is an unshaded render done in Maya (the ground geometry was later replaced with a displacement geometry that I felt did the job better). There is really not much to it. If you flip through the pages of Ballistic's book previewer (http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/books/dartiste/matte_painting_2/flip_d_mp2.swf) (the last tutorial way in the back) there are a few more images that, though small, may give a bit of an idea of the process. I rendered a number of passes of the foreground elements that I then composited in Photoshop. The backdrop is a 2D mattepainting that I would include in the 3D scene for lighting and reflection purposes. The characters are partly pieced together from photographs and partly painted, then mapped on cards. Further color correction and grading was applied at the end.
Really this was more about creating a mattepainting than a car render. The idea here was to explore mattepainting as a means to stage and composite characters/action rather than mattepainting as an architectural/landscape illustration that exists for its own purpose. Mostly mattepainting is no more than a means to help tell a story and I felt it was important to touch on that in the book.
As for Lux Lucis, it really is just a bunch of hazy ideas that I keep collecting under that name in hopes to some day turn it into something more... not sure if I'll ever find the time.
Again, thanks for your kind comments, I really appreciate it!
congrats on the award dude :)

Excellent color pallette in all your works.thanks for inspiring a hell out of me!
Can you share more info about this personal project is it going to be a book.short film or??...sounds awesome!
the other related image on your portfolio is stunning too. There is wow factor for the whole composition, colors, mood, its very dynamic.
Although the location is a very daily ordinary location that everyone could be there, The image is not getting its beauty from high tech sky scrapers or you're not on the clouds seeing the unlimited lands to be in awe.
this is different, and really really good indeed.

Definitely deserving of feature on the front page. I can tell you studied the old GM ads by Art Fitzpatrick from the the 60's and early 70's. I really appreciate that, being a fan of classic cars and the artwork in the advertising that went along with them. This is totally inspirational to me, thanks for sharing.

DUCKORABB, japetus, Angroc: There's no denying it, Syd Mead certainly was an inspiration here.

Outstanding. The amount of work here is simply astounding.
The only crit from me is my photographer's nature . . . the depth of view is too wide (like from near to infinity ultra sharp, huh) and even if it's a sunny day at f/16, the far distance is still too sharp.
great atmosphere, though!

Hey great work Chris,
I like how you've tackled the light on the guy & the general colour palette, has a nice retro/sci-fi feel, like something you'd see in promotional/lifestyle material.
Only crit would be the rear fin of the car gets lost a little, I only noticed it when I saw the render. Looks good though, nice design.

Like every other viewers I will say that your image is perfect,
Your technical level is astonishing.
The Cadillac, the decor, the two persons, every thing is good.
However there is some points that are to be think about to make it absolutely perfect.
You are making a description of an unreal world, with flying cars stabilized in the air with a engine working with I don't what energy.
This is unrealistic but the laws of physics and nature have to apply, in order that every one enter the illusion.
1)
Your reactors are creating heat, The birds have to be afraid of it, like any normal bird will do. or at least be far enough...
2)
Your reactors are emitting light, the shadows of the car on the ground, specialy in the borders of the shadow...are not altered enough by this supplementary source of light.
3)
This one is excessive, but from the position of the man, the car will shift on the right. His weight will either make it shift or unballance the car. Knowing that (the man) will not put this hand in this position or this unballance status have to be represented.
Ok,
this said your work is really good.
