hello

it's me again :) i'm still working on animation - and i want to show Logo of my client in 3d, but i want to transfer it into another object (i'hv posted more info in post TP-Question).

when i use Adobe Illustrator file (import into Cinema) and extrude it (with Extrude Nurbs) a've got mesh with triangles:

1) import ai file into cinema

2) Extrude Nurbs this shape and convert into editable
(and we get triangles on cap of object)
http://www.station75.com/teampoland/ls_02.gif

3) i'll made cube and spline which i used with plugins EAS:
http://www.station75.com/teampoland/ls_03.gif

4) and i've got object like this:
http://www.station75.com/teampoland/ls_04.gif

Object information:
- Extrude Nurbs (after convert to editable)
Points 36 - Polygons - 23
- EAS object
Points 20 - Polygons - 18

it's not big different but when You work on complex logos this method can produced more different, but i have disadvantages...
object made by EAS are not quite smooth like that made with Extrude Nurbs (of course You can increase points on spline)
but have one big advantage: - it produce clean mesh which You can easy modify or displace.

But maybe is another method to produce clean mesh with Extrude Nurbs?

why not simply use a sweepnurbs instead?

you just need a rectangle spline, your spline for the extrude, and a sweepnurbs object... and you get complete control... simple as, you can even add in another spline close to the one you're using to define the shape to define the diameter of the sweepnurbs (thus making it go in and out).

right but You still get triangles on caps...

Howdy,

To get better control of the resulting polygons in an Extrude NURBS, Sweep NURBS or any other spline based object, you can add the right amount of additional points to your splines and convert them to "Linear" splines. You'll get more predictable results. Of course you'll still get triangles on the caps but they will be more orderly and once you make the object editable you can easily use the Untriangulate tool to convert them to quads.

Adios,
Cactus Dan

Look for "Extruding and deforming words ".

Itīs a method I often use when I need to deform text.

Might be of help.
