View Full Version : Pelt Mapping: seams not working?
SkylerCloud222 09-28-2008, 09:20 PM Trying to figure out pelt mapping. After importing my model into max 2009, I add my seam along the back of the head. (first image)
Then I select all the faces and press "pelt" in the map parameters (second image)
When I start the pelt it pulls apart from the open bottom of the model and completely ignores the seam I made. (third image)
I've look searched google, the help file and so on with no help.
Please help! Thanks :)

you don't need pelt for the whole head ( i start off with cylindrical )...and it sounds logical to me that it ignores your seam.Try using pelt for more planar areas such as the ear...then it will be more helpfull

Well man this will sound morbid... but try to imagine how would you skinned a man alive! Your seams are in wrong place, try to put them this way: around the neck just beneath the chin, from the back of the neck trought the middle of the head (looked from top) all the way... almost to the forehead, around the ears (you should do ears separatelly), around the eyes, around the nostrils, around the mouth. Then in "edit pelt map" you should try to shape the springs in the rectangular shape (not default circular), this is done with "scale left-to-right", "scale top-bottom" and "move" tools. Then you can try to pull them!
It is difficult to explain that in this way, but I hope this will help you a litle bit! I tried to upload one tutorial in .pdf but it is too large... too bad!
And one more thing, before you do anything to the strecher ROTATE IT to get symmetrical look of springs on both (all) sides!
