Mac or PC ?

on Mac get the Quicktime Pro and Perian plugin, then you can open almost everythng and export to just as many.

Lossy format to another lossy format. Why bother? It will look worse and waste time. Just use a media player that will do both like VLC or MPlayer. Cheers!

Well if I was to ever put my vid on a page with Windows embed player. It won't work on any other platform?

And as for the WMV file not working on the wins qt version, that isn't very cross-platform.:surprised

Do you have the original video in a lossless form? If so just use whatever format you want from scratch. Post it in multiple formats on your site to accommodate more users. Cheers!

i found the above converter to be perfect when i stumbled across it last week. it converted a nice uncompressed avi (600mb) down to 1.3mb with no resizing and fairly decent divx quality in like 10 seconds.

from the look of the drop down options there are loads of formats that it'll convert to/from and for free it really cannot be beat.
