Hello All,
I took up maya from the personal learning edition and got interested in 3d modelling. Right now i'm stumped about something that the included manual did not explain. My problem is I have a few simple modelled objects that I want to texture. My problem arises when I want to texture one object but the other objects get textured too. Ex: I want to texture my bookshelf but when i go through the material attributes and select the texture, all the other objects get that texture also. It's not grouped or parented nor was it selected. Also, when I have something textured and i want to add something, say a cube for example, once i create the primitive, the cube will be textured already. How do i create new primitives to work with with the default lambert?

I hope i explained my problem without screenshots.
Thanks

i can think of a few reasons, your objecst were they duplicated with instance? is the shader your using the default shader? select your shader, right click and ...im not in maya but it says something like show applied to? click that, im guessing its one or the other. if im wrong sir...welll! just msg again ciao!

oh what your talking about you added a cube its textured already, that sounds like your default shader is assigned your texture already, im sure thats thecase.

I agree with levi your texture is probably on the default shader and any object you create will have that texture. whenever i begin to texture and i have multi objects i assign the obj that im working on a new material. If you want to use the same material on multi objs but dont want to copy the materials for each object, u can use the switching utility to asign different textures to different objs that share the same material.
