tessted 06-06-2003, 11:16 PM Can any one tell me how apply an opacity map to a particle system snowflake in 3dsmax 4.0 to get a more realistic snowflake ?
Any info will help!!
James, thanks for the directions.

I am not sure how well this will work. What I do for making fire is to make a new material. Set the difuse to a gradient. Make the gradient radial. Then back in the main texture change its opacity map to the same thing, a radial gradient. This makes a spark looking thing I can then apply to particles set to "facing." Perhaps you could take the same approach except instead make a bitmap of a snowflake. Then go back and set the same opacity map to the texture. If you can't get that to work tell me, I think I can and I'll make a tutorial for ya. Hope this helps you out :).
