Ibanezhead 06-06-2003, 06:38 PM Is there any word on whether Discreet is going to reveal anything new at Siggraph?

Discreet don't usually give much away, but I would expect an announcment at Siggraph.
It's been said that discreet want to accelerate development from 18 to 12 months between major releases.
The only new feature that is pretty definite is the new particle systems that is already available to subscribers.
There's been rumour of Mental Ray integration, but it's all speculation.

Computer Arts (magazine) has said that Discreet will announce Max 6 by the end of the summer.
I hope that they improve the renderer, and not with MR. A new mat editor would be nice, too.

good lord...sounds like MicroSoft. They shouldn't rush things like this, it really annoyes me. If this is true the upgrade better be cheaper like 600 bucks instead of 800 bucks. But, I really doubt that.

Its very cool, v1.0 (current release) is missing some features such as fragmentation or lights as particles, but these are minor gripes. Its very stable and very flexible, its a great core on which future additons can only improve. Its also completely scriptable so you can do pretty much anything you want with it.
Hopefully by max6 some of the outstanding loose ends with PF will be tied up. Discreet certainly did a very good job on this one :)
Kudos to them and Oleg (the programmer/designer)

max6...mmmm...
it looks like it's all about the number.. you know.
maya and max are competing with the numbers, maybe.
just like how intel and amd did with the cpu speed.
amd named their cpu differently than intel,
and emphasized that the number is not important. hehe
well, now maya has the number 5, so max should bring out
higher number(6)?

MR will be integrated with max 6, and from what i have heard, it is one of the best MR integrations of any app. very fast.
dont look for too many new afeatures other than the above mentioned PF, there was talk of a rewrite a while back. if they r trying to make it more stable or more compatible for plug writers, then they wont hav much time to add new features. with cs4, and PFlow, and MR, i think they did a pretty good job with this next release.

In times of internet, you should never use the word "remember" again ;) Discreet has a Press Releases archive, you know...
