3D-Palace is very pleased to announce the release of its second GameDev training DVD Set, this time for next generation game assets. The Next Generation Game Development in Unreal Tournament 3 for 3ds Max (http://www.3d-palace.com/cgshop/product_info.php?products_id=90&osCsid=2h4p33e7n2p180rm8jfv8731l5)

SUMMARY

The ED209 Game Development Project is a video learning set from www.3d-palace.com (http://www.3d-palace.com) that covers advanced game development character building, preperation and insertion into a game both as a static textured mesh and as a fully animated and realised asset. The set covers some unique concepts in game development model development, including a new Scaffold Methodology to allow a much faster approach to modelling.

You will start this set, as usual, with a completely empty scene in 3ds Max, no photoshop files and no game assets - by the end of this mammoth FOUR DVD set, you will have a fully rigged low polygon ED209 with high polygon normal map, actually inside the Unreal Tournament 3 game with every step of the process along the way demonstrated!

For a synopsis of this new set you can look at the low res video introduction here - the set is available from www.3d-palace.com/cgshop (http://www.3d-palace.com/cgshop) with free postage worldwide

I fully agree :) There are two more DVD Sets along these lines coming - one will cover scratchbuilding a level - broken into design and build phases and the other will cover vehicles in UT3. Thanks for the kind words though and I hope you enjoy the set when you get it :D

So, the end product will be to show the animated ED-209 through Matinee?

I agree, a followup DVD on turning him into a vehicle, or even better, a character would be great. Scripting in Unreal seems to be the biggest area that is lacking in training materials right now.

Yes I agree. I have a set Im working on at the moment that includes quite a lot of scripting in development. With this sort of project its not really covered that well by tutorial vendors so far simply because you are moving away from the "one man does all" and well into the bounds of "team" - just like the real world of gamedev of course.

edit : and yes - ED209 animated through Matinee. I will see if I can work with Greg to turn him into a vehicle too though - becuase that would be awesome.

Set is now version 1.1 with a path fix in the menu - if anyone has purchased this set and would like a copy of the patched executable then let me know and I will arrange a download link. This fix sorts out a broken path to the intro and 3 other bad paths - if you have this problem you can still watch the video directly from the DVD. New DVDs will not have this issue.
