JMaple 09-24-2008, 05:31 PM My student reel at http://www.jadeanimation.net/2.html . Let me know what you think I had an extremely rocky start at animation but I enjoy it. I am currently gathering ideas for a new reel.

Nice job finishing a first reel. Shot in the dark here....... youre a full sail grad? I say this because your keys are a little floaty. They tell you to keep it moving, but what you want is a moving hold. Snap to a pose, and then move slightly within that pose. My first reel suffered from the same problem. Id say the dog shot is the best example of this.
Its rough around the edges, but keep it up and youll be amazed how much sweeter you can get it!

Thanks, your very correct which makes me feel a bit embarrassed that my mistakes are easily labeled and associated with the place I've studied. However, it was bound to happen. I think to be honest I was mainly trying to please people other then myself with my reel. Like I mentioned it was very difficult and I didn't and still have a hard time trusting my own judgment with my animation. I am trying an animation right now with more holds hopefully I'll work it better but my main goal is just to improve in general. Thank-you for viewing and offering your wisdom!

i am currently a student at the art institute of Portland, i am a Junior there but i did want to say that your arcs in the vending machine sequence are really good! and your drawings of the characters and the model are great! with the vending machine sequence though, near the end of it the characters left arm is missing a little follow thru. but overall i really liked it!
great job!
