i reached to this point :-

Select particleshape1 and open the expression editor.Add the runtime expression

index=rand(1,26);

========

when i write ( index=rand(1,26); )

this what i get :

// Error: index=rand(1,26); //
// Error: Invalid use of Maya object "index". //

========

what should i do ?!!?

:annoyed:

Not quite sure which effect you're aiming for here, can you give some examples?

Anyway if you mean the signet "Matrix" with the blurred lines to both sides then I'd suggest you do that in post - would be a lot easier that way!

Create a new attribute on the particles called IndexNum or something. Set it the the random value you described above. Then in the particles instancing tab goto index and choose your new attribute.

Hehe, it's not that good. It's over on the 3DBuzz forums:

http://sv1.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32573

It could definitely be improved in the post stage, but I'm very much a beginner at all things compositing. Rendered straight out of Maya you get the full effect though apart from the end transition.

Ignore the first pic of the effect I posted, the AVI I attach further down is much better.
