Yo!

Iīd like to share a clip with my recent first attempt at lipsynch animation. (Didnīt have time to join in that funny Newtek-contest)
This was an entertaining exercise, but I have for myself totally ruined a great little scene of LOTR:FOTR from where I sampled the audiotrack. Let that be a warning ;) (... but I guess it is harmless if you donīt wiew it 500+ times)

The animation is HERE (http://www.turboforce3d.com/bilder/tichy/strider.mpg) [4,88 MB - MPEG-format]

The character is an older creation. I have displayed him here before. Since he is a spacevoyager :D I set the scene in a kind of spacy bar. But that has no major importance, I just wanted an easy-to-create environment.

Since this is my pilot ride at this, please donīt be affraid to tell me if there is something you might find goofy (... or just good either, of course)

Lol!
That part at the very end is hilarious!

The one thing that caught my attention was that his eyes didn't seem to convey the same feeling as the voice. I kind of expected to see his eyes shift about a bit more, as if he was kind of nervous.

Other than that, it's awesome!

Something about the mouth shapes just seems wrong, the edges of the mouth never come in so it almost looks like his lips are moving pretty much up and down all the time with no variation...

I think you should use more exaggerated shapes that you have now for your phenomes and dont be affraid to go to limits with it, the acting of the character since he's speaking in that low voice could use some paranoia to it (lowering his head, looking around)

Nevertheless, not bad for a first attempt.. not bad at all ;)

I've always wondered why some threads gets no replies at all...no matter how nice the artwork is.

Oh well...here's my first ever CG Talk-post!

Anyways...overall a good job...there are some issues though, if you ask me:

* His jaw is moving a bit too much, and his lips too little.
Less vertical jaw-movement, more lipmovement!

* His sideburns! ;) They stretch when his jaw is moving. Hair doesn't stretch, now does it? :p

Really good work on that last few secs, too...

Thanks guys

I think you are all right on the matter of the lips. I will have to redo those morphs in wilder expressions for further setups. At lest to compensate the motion of the jaw.

KOBALT_KORE - what you say about the eyes is so true. His act would have improved by doubles if I had thaught of that!

and...

gimpfarfar - welcome to cgtalk :wavey:

I just saw your animation and think it was great.

Will definitely put it on my site and one of the nicest animations that I've seen.

Can you send me what Program you used and your computer's specs to post on my site?
