Hi there....

Another EXR question about AE. Once agin I am trying to mimic how it is done in NUKE at work on my home system in AE (can not afford NUKE).

Anyway. When I render a EXR from Max using Vray it will embed teh Zdepth infomation directly into the EXR file. Now this channel apears to be strait black when you view it. BUT the HDR infomation of the blacks has a lot of data in it.

In Nuke to get this data into a usable formate you mouse over teh image and look for a High value and a Low Value. Then use the GRADE node to grade the image from 0-1 grayscale.

Basicaly turning the "black" image into a black -> white matt.

If that is not clear i made a pic for you guys....

Q:- How is this done in AE? I assume it is one of the filters... but I can not seam to see witch one.

Q: - Also... how can you get the pixle data of HDR images in AE... say if you mouse over a white spot how can you tell if it is +3 or +1.5 or 1, or a black spot.. how can you tell if it is -.04 or -5 or 0

Thanks in advance.

That's what EXtractoR is for. Depth is "just another channel", nothing special. Once you have the channel, you can adjust the ranges using the built in controls, Exposure or Levels effects to get the ranges. Viewport exposure in 32bpc mode is adjusted with the respective control at the bottom of the comp viewer.

Cool, thanks mate that is all I needed. Levels has the White/Black input controls like nuke and you can get the Pixle Infomation by simply mouse overing the image with the INFO pannel open. The RGBA values ffor the Pixles show up there. So you cna use that to get your pixle values for the image.

Cheers mate
