Any chance of a mirror somewhere? Killing servers seems like a daily business for you guys.
Sorry, but personally I thought it was the worst thing I've ever seen on television.

The Yoda thing was awful as well. I can't believe we chose watching that awards show over renting a DVD... Seriously, as I sum the worst and most embarassing moments of my life, watching that show, especially in the Gollum part, was by far the worst choice of my entire life. I give up on cable TV... Time to try out HD-Digital, but I'll probably ditch it. I wish there was a way to order specific cable channels.

I thought the gollum thing was great.. but im in totaly agreance(sp) with that yoda thing.
I didn't appreciate that at all... kinda takes the "umph" away from his whole.. coolness? But yeah, Im mad they even wasted the time to do that shit. They might as well have had jarjar up there in black panther clothes too. Thats kinda when my attencion avderted back to my render.
Well just so people don't get mad, both CG things were the best part of the movie awards, other than seeing everyone's favorite lesbian pop duo tATu totally lip-sync parts of a song too high for Yulia's vocal range. This being said, that's like saying you're the best player on the worst team. See what I'm saying? Somehow, I think we'll all step closer to true wisdom itself if we turn off the MTV.
The highlight of the night: Balki Bartokamous.

Matt, seriously, ease up man. Take the MTV awards for what it is.. It's supposed to be radically different from other awards shows and more entertaining, albeit over the top at times..
I don't even have cable tv, but you have to take almost anything on TV today with a grain of salt, most of it is a bunch of bs. Especially now with more than 1 company owning multiple stations and newspapers down here in LA, you have to filter 90% of it. Thanks FCC, monopolies are great.......

Weta must have a pretty efficient workflow to be able to push out animation like this for an acceptance speech. I really liked this little clip but I hope they didn't take time out of the ROTK schedule to do this.
PS. Why did this thread turn into a discussion about local cable TV? I mean seriously people keep that stuff to yourselves, I was hoping to read some critiques on the animation, instead I wasting my time reading twenty posts about how MTV sucks and cable TV is the devil. Everyone knows that but this is a cg forum so lets analyze and critique. Just my two cents.

I would have liked it alot better if Gollum had'nt been dropping the F-bomb every three seconds.
Not very appropriate, but then I'm a Tolkien worshiper and I cant help but feel like he woulda looked at that and been insulted.
As someone else said it could have been just as funny if he hadn't been flipping the bird and screaming the F-INGHEIMER every few sseconds.
I do agree wtih the sentiments regarding MTV though.
Is anyone here old enough to remember when they played music?
*sigh* the good old 80's.

Why am I pm'ed by lildragon for just saying how much I disliked the whole thing, as if I was flaming somebody, but then someone flames me directly and it's alright?
I forgive you, and I won't take your bait. Simply said, I didn't like the books, and I know of better books that would make better movies, so I'm biased. (And for good reasons.)
Jar jar is a more solid character than Gollum..........you must be thinking of some other Jar Jar and not the one that was insanely annoying. Just out of curiosity, what the hell would you consider good work (other than yours of course), or are you disappointed by everything that you see?
manfriday

is it my imagination or is Matt actualy advertising his IQ?
I see where this is going, so I'll put up a road block. Don't take anything I say as flames, ever. I honestly don't mean to insult people I don't even know, so let it be known that if I'm a bit harsh with words, it's not meant to hurt anyone or offend. Matter of fact, don't take anything anyone says on the internet seriously.

Awesome, you gotta give credit to weta for making such a great thing in such a short (presumably) time. Maybe someone gave a 'secret' call to weta:
weta guy: Hello?
mysterious caller: you dont know me, but it would be wise to start work on an mtv award acceptance speech involving Gollum.
weta guy: Listen, if you're that stupid kid from down the street...
mysterious caller: the audience will want to see gollum in the acceptance speech, do it...now. Tell your animato-
weta guy: dude i totally see you at the phone booth. Im callin the cops.
You get the idea.
Also, i think someone's 8 key got stuck a bit.

i asked in the other gollum thread that just sorta disappeared... anybody have any idea wut kinda resources ilm and weta used for those acceptance speeches? as in how many ppl and how much time it took to go from start (writting and concept) to finish (rendered and recorded). would be interesting to know what all was required when both companies are still busy on makin' movies.

That sort of humor has been in Jackson's blood for a long while.
Meet the Feebles was a film that was WAY ahead of its time - long before South Park, etc.

i think some of the people thinking it was stupid is also because they downloaded it and were expecting something clever. if you just watched the show when they first aired it, it was completely unexpected. and don't turn it into a generation thing, it's just about different senses of humor. some people find bathroom humor funny and laugh histerically everytime they hear a fart in a movie. other people think jokes like that are stupid and find no humor in it. some people find the 3 stooges funny while others think slapstick comedy is the dumbest thing they've ever seen. either way though... you gotta admit that when something is built up to be hilarious and it turns out being some little guy cussing a lot, it loses it's edge. but watching it without any expectations and having it be completely unexpected gives a diff't perspective.
