Hi

I've finshed rigging my model. Now i want to apply Fur to the model. So first problem, i've made eyes wiht texture (using uv maping) and join them to the rest of model. If i want create uv map for fur, i will lose eye texture, cause Maya treats eyes and rest of model like one. And second problem. How to creat uv map thats leaves eyes as it is, and help me to apply fur. I've applied fur to the model, and it doesnt looks good, and it isnt in render view. But if i creat new scene with plane that has fur, it works perefectly.

What renderer are you using. What software are you using. Why can't you have the uv map for your eyes?

I'm useing Maya 2008 and Hardware rendering. I think it's all about UV maping cause it's poly model. I've created uv map good uv map for part of my model (tail) and still fur covers about 1% of surface of tail :( change any of attribute like Density dont do much. Any idea how to apply fur poly model. Myabe some somene knows good tutorial about makeing fur on animal model.

Hey there
I have had loads of issues with fur and have some points. But yours does sound odd. Most of the time its a UV problem, the only thing is nurbs has perfect UVS all the time and polys you have to unwrap yourself. If you have the cgtoolkit books they have a really good breakdown of this matter. If you add the description onto say a nurbs sphere does it work? Are you using mental ray? This has presets you can try. Can you see the fur in the view panels? Are you using texture maps to drive any of the attributes such as polar etc? Have you checked your global scale on the fur? Keep at it , it does work....eventually..
The website tutorilized might have something...

Can render useing Mental Ray. Maya freezes and crash. Now i'm rendering useinn Hardware. When I make whole new scene and put nurbs sphere, apply fur on it, it works, even in render view. So i've made screen shot of how it's looking now. I've done complete new UV map and it's still dont work

Uv map dont look so perfect, cause my model is ... let say a little F***** up :(

Hey
Well the feedback looks fine. Crashes with mental ray?! Thats tough. I have never rendered the fur with Hardware rendering, its common to render particles with it...but hey if it works. Have you tried the render with software rendering? UVs look ok, I mean what you have should work. If the tail renders out then you can place it all in the 0-1 and see what you get. Have you tried a render of a sphere with fur on it? Does that crash?

Ok now rendering Menta ray works, but.... dont work as it should be. I've tried to render sphere in Mental ray, and works perfectly, but if I render my cat model, it's rubbsh. Ok fur is visible, but smoothness level is one.

this is what i mean

Try putting your UVs in 0 to 1. If I'm thinking correctly... maya deals with fur in the 0 to 1 UV space. Your UVs matter in this case I think.

A solution to your problem could possibly be... and I'm not saying it is... but it could be your normals? Make sure your normals are facing outwards.

It's definetly hard troubleshooting fur from afar.

Ok, I know how apply fur on my model. Just need to use Revers function on my UV's and fury covers whole model. I manage to render my model (Without Fur) correct in Mental ray useing Aproximation Editor, but always something. I have to much hairs, so if i try to render my model with fur applied, maya close with error Out of Memory. So i can only have fur on tail :( only then maya can render it. Anyone knows how to "squeeze" more of Maya? Set more memory for maya (it crash now when use more than 524MB memory), or how to set attributes for fur to save more memory?
