Hello all, just a quick query as to whether anyone has used SketchUp to export 3DS files of late.

I've done this in the past and got some reasonable results bringing the resulting files into EI for some proper texturing and lighting !

But....with a new project supplied as a SketchUp file the 3DS export module appears to be k - nackered as in when i click on the options they do not pop up, and if I just hit export without trying to adjust the options I get a blue barber pole that spins for ever and then (when I've given up and gone to do something less boring instead) crashes the app.

It did used to work very well but they appear to have broken something with recent updates and despite searching for answers no-one appears to have a workaround or official solution.

So I turn to my fellow EI experts on the off-chance than someone's been through the same issue of late and might have some useful advice.

Appreciate any answers.

Regards

james

You do have the Pro license, not the limited time demo...?

Hi Richard

I did check that as when I updated SketchUp it lost its license. Having reset the license it didn't make a difference.

I've managed to export as an obj and use obj2fact to get it into EI quite well - horribly ordered but these things always are in my experience.

I checked on the FormZ site to see whether I could 'wangle' a demo of 6.6 with the SketchUp importer but alas the demo has no such ability. Guess I'll have to upgrade at some point.

Saw your image of the workshop on the FormZ splash screen though - it was nice to see someone I 'electronically' know's work.

Maybe I'll hear back from the SketchUp people about this - there certainly seemed a few people havng the same problem.

Cheers

James
