"Its name sounds like something out of science fiction, but the StarCAVE at the University of California, San Diego is now a science fact. The virtual-reality environment allows groups of scientists to venture into worlds as small as nanoparticles and as big as the cosmos permitting new insights that could fuel discoveries in many fields. Early users of the StarCAVE include UC San Diego researchers in biomedicine, neuroscience, structural engineering, archaeology, earth science, genomics, art history and other disciplines. "

This was a lot cooler in 1992 when they first made it.

yeah, what's so special about that? They've had something nearly the same at UIC chicago for Ages now. And it even plays Doom. lol

You cant expect an article like this to convey visually what an experience like this is, or indeed how much the technology has improved. We have been waiting for VR for about 20 years, or at least since the release of the lawnmowerman :D . VR. is the pinacle of digital graphic technology and it aint as easy as it looks. Leaving games for dead as far as possible application is concerned.

I would have put the wand in the glasses and had a rotating walk platform so you could walk to wherever you are looking, without actually moving. A flight control would be dandy, like a jetpack sim when you want to soar through landscapes (or around DNA strands).

This stuff is going to be brilliant someday soon!
