This my latest wok it was a part of my first experiment for making feathers using the lightwave new tool FiperFX and i ended up with this chick :) i hope you like it.

The feathers looks great.
The only thing that bugs me is the lighting.
It looks very flat, almost like the material has a bit of self illumination on it, if you understand (not sure what it's called in lightwave).
If you look at the hay or grass, the dark parts are a lot more dark.
Perhaps your lightsource isn't casting shadow?
Or try with a Occlusion pass maybe.
Anyways, it looks good, and for a feather test the lighting may be in low priority.

doffer thanks for your critique.
Since you will not see the shadows under the feathers so I decided to turn it off and sure its in low priority in such a case ;)
there is no self illumination at all the most of lighting work is done within PS.

The dry grass looks much better then the chick... is it a comped photo?

Environment looks extremely photoreal! Did you model it or was it added in photoshop?
