Is it possible to model 3d surfaces in Max 5 using parametric and/or implicitly defined mathematical functions?

If it's possible, how complex functions is it able to handle?

Or do I have to export files from Maple and the likes?

I would love this ability.. :)

Should be possible with maxscript. I'm pretty sure you can define shapes all the way down to vertext level. Visit the maxscript forum for help.

There was once a plugin from Cuneyt Ozdas called Mathmax, but it only works with max 3 :|

Ok, that's too bad..

A script to do that comes with max 5 (don't know about other versions), just run the Object- MathObject.ms script in the scripts/pluginscripts folder and in the create panel you'll have an extra rollout called scripted objects where you can create mathobjects. I doesn't import maple files though.
