View Full Version : Do you think Character Studio 4 was rushed?
erilaz 06-06-2003, 12:41 AM I've been using the CS4.1 plugin pretty intensively over the last couple of months, and although it is far better than CS3.x, I've had many headaches with it's buggy curves, it's lack of handles (yes, I'm aware of the ability to turn them on, but they're practically useless) and it's seemingly random loss of information from one day to the next.
I get the feeling more and more every day that the plugin was rushed to release before it was truly polished.
I really don't want to bash it, it has helped immensely, but I just think it could have been less buggy with more time.
Has anyone else experienced problems with this plugin?

egad, erilaz!!! I just got CS4 yesterday and was about to install it today, but your post has made me wary. Can you please explain in a bit more detail exactly what the nature of these problems is (especially the 'random loss of information from one day to next'). It seems on the surface that CS4 has nearly all the features I'd always hoped for in CS (esp. NLA), but if it's going to bug out on me constantly and hinder my work-flow then I'd rather just return it and keep using version 3. Please let me know more about your problems. If anyone else has encountered problems, please post them here as well. Thanx.

CS 2 and 3 were buggy Max was and is buggy. It's not a surprise. It will be a surprise when they are not very buggy.

GRMac13, to put it simply, CS4 is better than CS3. Workflow is better with it. However:
The curves are jumpy. Move one key value, and the curve can sky rocket to somewhere you never set it to.
Copying keys can flip the curves!
Adding layers can makes the curves of the Bip root disappear.
The handles (if you can figure out how to turn them on) are practically useless.
You can get unreliable results from mix-mode to mixdown.
Um... I'll let you know the rest when I think of them.
CS3-CS4 files can be buggy.
This is only in my experience. I'd like to see if people have had similar problems before I jump in and say it's discreet's fault. Maybe I'm doing something odd. Somehow I doubt it.
But, I still say that it's better than CS3 by a long shot.
