how do you tell which way its gonna go
even,odd, auto. whats the difference ... i hate having to just do it by trial and error

I always leave it on Automatic, and select two polygons lined up in the direction I want Bandsaw to select and cut. It always works the way I expect it, then.

You should also give Bandsaw Pro a try. :)
