I'm a new user with Painter X/essentials, love the stuff but one thing is really frustrating me. If I want to 'free transform' a shape on my layer, I cannot seems to get it. I use the selection box (the one with the square+cross), I make a selection on the shape, and then after scaling the selectiontool, noting happens!! The shape stays just the same... Does anybody now how that works?? In photoshop when you do ctrl+T you can scale a shape, and you see effect inmediately.... Gerb - (info@gerb-art.com (http://forums.cgsociety.org/info@gerb-art.com))

In Painter you can't transform just a selection (that tool you are trying to use is basically a mask only), you can only transform the entire layer. So you'd have to cut out the selection and repaste (use ctrl+v+shift to past in place - that's on a PC) . To transform a layer click on the layer adjust tool (arrow with the cross symbol) then right click on layer and select Free Transform from the popup. Transform how you like (not as fully functional as PS but you can get more options holding the shift key while hovering over the node points). To commit the transform you can either right click on the layer and select commit transform or right click on the layer in the layers palette and choose commit there.

not entirely sure what you mean .. but try .. make your selection then press the F key, click on the selection ... this will float it. RMB click the floated selection and select free transform and then transform away.

Aroma has it wrong, Brenly has it correct.

Make your selection, hit 'F' for "Layer Adjustment, which essentially creates a "mask copy" floater, Right Click your mouse and select Free Transform.

Yeah, it's kludgier than Photoshop, but Painter is designed for painting, more than image editing. It can still edit, just not quite as easily...
