I am working from this dvd from the Gnomon Workshop and am having a bit of trouble. He makes his key poses then makes this double key to block the inbetween movements, so it just jumps from one key pose to the next with no movement inbetween. He is also working in Spline, but his double key makes it like a stepped tangent while still working in spline. I found this http://forums.thegnomonworkshop.com/showthread.php?t=1366 at the Gnomon Workshop Forums to give you an idea of what he is trying to do. Ok so I followed the explination in the link for the 1st pose to the 2nd pose and it worked fine. No movement inbetween whatsoever. But when I tried for the 2nd to 3rd pose I got the slightest of movement inbetween. I followed exactaly what i did for the 1st to 2nd pose. I am at a loss as to why it didn't quite work. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you

As I am fairly new to character animation and learning the methods, could you please explain what you mean by playblast and what settings would be reccomended?

sorry man, I kinda just assumed maya was your application for some reason, is that correct?

I was just looking for some way to view this animation without actual doing a polished render. It's just a rough yet efficient way to quickly view your animation

If you do have maya you can just right click on the timeline and select the playblast option box from the pop up list. From here you just need to save out the playblast to a location and upload it on youtube or vimeo or whichever uploader you prefer so we can view it.

I am going to guess that your tangents are not flat between your keys and have a slight arc to them causing the movement. Check your graph editor. You can also change your settings to clamped flat keys so when you start blocking it will hold each pose until the next!

hey guys, here is what i have so far. The blocking worked for most of the key poses, but you can see in the last 2 key poses he is supposed to jump from the follow through to the relaxed pose. I have it set up exactly like the rest of the key frames and also switched to clammped tangents. I changed some curves in the graph editor and that did help with the begining poses, but I am at a loss as to how to fix the last one. Anyway here it is.

Looks like you need to grab the hips and the left foot and middle mouse them from the pose when his left foot makes contact till the end. Right now it looks like they are sliding back to the start pose after he throws. Maybe you can find a playblast script that makes frame numbers in the movie and a quicktime format is better so people can step through the frames! Or if you want you can email me the file and I can look at it first hand. Hope any of that helps....
