if you notice, sometimes when rendering with MR you get error messages saying ...i forget but the shader isnt compatible with MR. thats one reason why. we work on maya 5 over here, i remember it wouldnt render the glow on shaders, im not sure if it does now. you know just thigns like that im not a td, i dont know any exact reasons but thats something i could see benifiting people.

The best reason is so you can use photon mapping. Like doing a photon-mapped SSS shader
