FYI- We recently finished an HD show for PBS called "America's Southwest- Are We Running Dry?"- all 3D was EIAS except for the opening title which was Maya. 'Probably 50 or more shots. If you're in Los Angeles, it will be on KCET Thursday, Oct. 23 at 8 PM. Other PBS air dates can be found at http://www.runningdry.org/americansouthwest/when.html.
We also did a recent "Nature" show for PBS called "Superfish".

You can visit our website
to see some old stuff (we really need to update this); I'll try to post some links to newer stuff.
A bit about our company, Live Wire: we've been an EIAS user since the beginning (pre-release v1); we do motion graphics and effects work for feature films and broadcast TV. A fair amount of large format (IMAX) stuff, stereo work, and theme park venue, too. I've also authored a Motion training course and used to write for DCC Magazine.
I've been lax with participating in the EI community, so hopefully I can contribute more.

Hi Scott S
I like the integration of the water boat, is great to see EI on shots like these, kind of hard to figured out the how to, part of the magic.
I saw that you have model the motor boat as well, that is why i suspect you integrated the motor boat into the shot or the boat was already model and you had to integrate the particles with real water and the engine explosion. I really couldnt tell.Is not because is very small but was very well done.Looks natural coudlnt say it is CG.

The boat shots were CG boats and effects covering bad miniatures- so we had to replace the "toy" boats, add spray, or smoke, etc. I'll upload some selects to our web gallery tomorrow so you can see bigger versions of the shots.
In the meantime, here's a link to some of our motion graphics work. It may take a few minutes to load. Let me know if takes too long.

I had to downloaded it doesnt like my connection. I am downloading it at 280kb so i donot know why is taking so long to watch it online.Maybe it needs to be compressed some more keeping the size 720.Or maybe is user error :)
I like the cartoon animation , i just like to give some dimension to the illustration or composite. You can than ad those flying papers going from house to house :)

Personally I think SoCal needs to stop sucking water out of the Sierras and the Colorado and build a boatload of desalinization plants. The Eastern Sierras used to be big time farming country like the central valley. Starting that up again would be good.

FYI, the visual effects web reel is up at

Blair, I think you'll like this documentary. The draining of the Colorado River and others is a central point. Also, desalination is talked about quite a bit.
