View Full Version : Frame serving footage?
Cabbage82 09-17-2008, 09:53 AM Can someone please tell what frame serving footage is? I am asking this for a friend of mine who is doing stuff for a client. He was told to frame serve the footage to make it editable or something like that...
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated, thanks all :)

It's a special kind of export mode in programs like VirtualDub or Premiere where via a dummy video file the processing app (e.g. AE) requests the original app to exactly render the frame at a given timecode and then via that dummy file the frame is retrieved from the other app. Basically you send the program holding the source footage in an infinite export loop and the frameserving plugin dynamically adapts the in- and outpoints of the range to be exported, constantly overwriting the other footage's frames. due to usually only very few frames required at a given time, this often happens fully in your RAM, having no noticeable speed impact otherwise.
