View Full Version : reusing UV layouts in maya
let's say you have a uv mapped body. Is there a way to save the uv layout even as you attach a head/body part?
thank you for your time

Not sure if this will help, but try this. I set upa ll of my Uvs on the unattached body parts. Then I created Quick Selection sets of the faces of the detached body parts. I then attached them all togeather as one object. When I needed to see the Uvs for certain parts of the geometry I just opened the uv texture editor and selected one of my sets. Boom there are my uvs. Hope it helps.
I find that selection sets become empty after the modifcation of geometry. Your quick selection sets still work after you attach geometry?

I cant remember if they worked directly after the attachment or if I had to create new sets. Sorry. either way, it is the same principle. It just might be an extra step.
thanks. i was hoping that there was a more direct way but oh well. The advantages would be great because you could work on smaller pieces and literally reuse geometry and uvs...
There's a script on highend.com called recallSelectionUI.mel that stores the face selections so you don't ahve to make new "quick" select sets.

Nice, I glad I could help. I didn't know about that script, it'll help save me some time later down the road. Thanks a lot.
