Yes I believe Windows XP was out during that time. I use Maya 4.5 on Windows XP Pro and it works great.

I used Maya 4.0 on xp home, same wiht 3ds max, but after i did a small render or something, xp would go comepletely psycho...

usually stalling, and having services going bust...

seems to work ok wiht 2k

Maya 4 was never certified to run on XP so don't expect it to run perfect. I know people ran it on XP pro, but some had problems with it. So I'd stick with 2k pro

Maya 4 on XP is a little odd. Minimizing windows drove me nuts. I agree with pyro, stick with Win 2k.

But I just found that it DOES support:

It does support (as I'm running 4.5PLE on XP Pro) but there are some limitations as aliaswavefront mentioned, there is no solution to those (except the UI one). And bcoz of the structure of XP, the change to crash is higher ....
