Hey people,

I would like to know how to take a boulder and have it fragmented into chunks upon an Impact in Maya, i don;t know how to do this...shall i use "Shatter" or is there another way which offers more control?

Thank you for the help.

hmmm... i know in max 5 its Particle array then u can choose a node and it breaks off with lots of options but my maya expertise is limited...

Shatter is prob the best and easiest way if you arent very particular how you want the pieces to break exactly or how. Define how many pieces and give them some weight and gravity and it works pretty well. Maya help shows how to set up the shatter in depth.....

Nice Andrei, Shatter works Very well....eventhough the geometry's traingu;ation is making dome interpenetraiton the dynamics are not that much altered Thanks For the tip!

Otherwise regarding the challenge i feel i won't make it as i got Hired last Monday (the 16th) in a company that wants to produce it's Own IMAX movie.

I am fresh outta school..since last September :p ... and i am in a learning frenzy to be sure to make the best for them.

:D so good luck to everyone else in the challenge this is sooooo much of a learning tool!!! ...who knows i may do it too..but not now....

Hey Guys,

I am looking forwoard to learn how to create in Maya some Thick Smoke. Kind of like when you see a space shuttle taking off, or when you see a volcanic eruption i want to do an effect looking exactly like a billowing plume of a volcano with huge thick smoke detailed....

I just can't do it, i tried the Missile tutorial on Highend3d...but it doesn't do it.

I really dig this effect and want to learn how to make it.

If you guys have pointers, tips, links, or what have you i would very thankful. :D

Thanks in advance !!!!! :D

Hey Guys,

I have a clip of the effect i want to achieve, so here it come: http://cobraxvfx.tripod.com/Shockwave.avi

I really hope to find some fast way of learning on how to do it....as i am being watched closely...

Thanks for suggestions and tips/hints/tricks on how i should start doing this in Maya...

I did take a look at those fluid effetcs....:surprised soooo many settings possible...

I don't know if i should use particles on multiple layers...(sprites for clouds...multipoints for fiery effect...or just Cloud particles..or...or..man i fear to get myself lost..)

The clip is in DivX 5.0.5.

Xavier.

Hey all,

Those pics are the kind of smoke i would like to reproduce using Maya. And you can imagine the kind of animation that goes with it.

All this has to move in a shockwave fashion. I did try the cloud particles..but i don't seem to get to THAT effect...any suggestions on how to use those type of particles...I know i still have to play with them.

Anyways i will manage , with your help guys to get that effect!

Sounds like a job for fluids! :)

There is a usable scene that you can tweak on your harddrive:)

Hey guys,

Thank you very much for your support :) A lot! I have been playing around with the cloud particle and the FIre effect and this is what i got after 30 minutes. It doesn't look bad, needs to be tweaked much more though i guess.

How do you like it?
