I decided to make a still life scene as a sort "get acquainted with cinema" project. The silver bowl is the first object for the scene.

C&C very welcome. Help me learn.

TIA

really nice dude. how did you make those seashell thingys?

if you could post an unsmoothed wire I would really dig it.

great work.

Thanks, JIII.

The bowl is something i inherited, so i had it to hand for ref. i took a picture of the shell from the top, poly-modelled (half of) it in plan, used Makethicker to give it some depth, and then extruded and moved things to sculpt the shape, then symmetry, then HN. being the first thing i'd really done in cinema (other than a wineglass and some VERY pretty cubes ;)), i ended up starting over a couple of times.

I did the legs pretty much the same way, with a bend deformer, as well.

i'm sure the wires could be better, but here they are

It looks fabulous. Great work.

hey, thanks everyone.

alienesque: not my first model exactly, but my first one with cinema and with subdivision/HN modelling tools. i did quite a bit of work in Infini-D in the mid-nineties, but these tools are fantastically better (and correspondingly more complex :hmm: ).

also i should have said, that the texture isn't mine--straight off of deep shade, with some dirtyNuts thrown on top.

Well done. Please note that you could have modeled only 1/4 of this model and used two symmetry objects. Something to keep in mind for next time maybe.

Out of curiosity, which shader is that from Deepshade? It's really very nice.

MJV: other than the bowl, which I lofted (so I could use an epicycloid for the wavey rim), the edges are all done in quarters, and the shells and legs are modeled as halfs, then in a symmetry to make them whole, then in a circular array to make 4 of each. would there be an advantage to using symmetries over arrays? there's so much to learn...

dandavis: its 052_silver_gold. it's got an environment map that gives that nice variation in the silver.

Really nice!
You win the daily award for insane modeling.
Texture is impressive as well...
