I make this according to the tutorial below step by step:
http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Community/Learn/how_tos/dynamics/particle_gears/

but the gears don't rotate, why????

Thats kind of a vague question...there could be many errors as to why its not working....did you Make Particles Collide? Did you make the gears active rigid bodies? Its a tough question to answer....if you are following the tute....my advice would be to start from scratch and make sure you follow each step exactly. Its the only way to learn. :arteest:

hmm couple things i can think of are:

select both rigid bodies and in the channel box, make sure they're active, and make sure collsions are "on" and try making the collision layer for each body "-1"

also, make sure your units are in centimeters (windows - settings prefs - prefs) then the "settings" tab you'll see units options.

And like greekdish said, make sure you have the particles colliding with the gear.

the Particle Collision is on indeed, otherwise the particle can't collide with the gear as shown above, you know.
When I create Hinge Constraints to gears, gears automatically become rigid bodies.

I have repeated it three times from the scratch, but the results are the same, I still don't know where I am wrong.

I just tried once

1.create particle emitter
2.create a plane
3.set the hinge to the gear and rotate it to get a right rotate direction
4. make sure the plane is Active rigid and Particle Collision is on
5. select both plane and particle (not emitter) and choose make collision
6. adjust the weight on both particle and plane

and it does rotate :surprised

I meant a flattened cube when I said plane:D
