Dear members of Cgtalk,

I just finished a very short film about probably the city I cherish the most. I'd be glad to read what you think of it !

Here is the film : http://motionographer.com/2008/05/19/jean-julien-pous-seeking-you/

I liked it a lot. Reminded me a little of a couple of Animatrix shorts. Can you share more what techniques, software and approach did you use to come up with this short?

Awesome and unique stuff.

Guess the forum not used to something so unique and varied..haha.You have some serious skills dude.I especially dig the variety in mediums and styles you went for....reflects in a way the variety of the city itself....

Cheers
Zack

Maybe it needs a few explosions and a monster truck  otherwise people might think it's gay with the nude guy, having a smoke on the roof, plus the french music-n-all.

But yeah I love HK. Haven't been there for ages though.

Thanks for your comments,

Thanks Zaak haha !

David-J> you do have more info about how it was made here : http://www.jjpous.com/seekingyou/making_of.html, but roughly, i used photos, rotoscoping, and cg backgrounds.

The references photos where very important, they are almost used raw in some shots. You can see them there : http://www.jjpous.com/v2k8/seekingyouphotography.html

The softwares, the usual, nothing fancy about it, Photoshop / Maya / After Effects.
The approach ? I made a proof of concept on a single frame, then a single shot, they couple, etc... It helped developing the style and the way to achieve it. The overall was very traditionally made, following the classic steps of synopsis / storyboard / 2d animatic / 3d animatic / prod and post. For the music, I made some research in Reason, but finally didn't use them. The sound effects and mixing were made in Sonar, pre-made with ProTools.

Riki > haha thanks, I totally forgot about that. What was I thinking ? I don't know what happened, such a common mistake. Next one will be full of z-brush monsters, epic fantasy and super hetero :).
