Agree the chimp modeling isent so god, but the animation is great.

Ha ha, that's terrible. I like the environments and the subtle animation on the monkey and the bear. The Kangaroo looks like an afterthought (maybe the fur could be better). The theatrical post-processing stuff is pretty cool if a little too visible. Polar bear is my favorite segment in terms of rendering quality on the ice and lighting. I won't bother analyzing the message (so as not to change the subject) other than to say it may have been a bit heavy-handed. I dare say that the melodramatic hilarity of animal suicide makes the whole thing seem like its meant to satirize the spot's own message, but you have no control over what the client wants. Overall, you delivered a well produced animation.

Hi Opera. I didn't have a chance to work much on that job cause i was on doing other things here. I just helped with little and very subtle smokes on some shots, but i can answer your question about render engine and fur.

The Render and Fur used was just the tools that came packed on 3DSMax.
Render Engine: MentalRay and Fur, Hair&Fur (3dsmax).

I was shocked by the results too. Specialy the polar bear scenes and fur look. :)

Hi all!

Thank you very much for the replies!
We are working in a making of to show details about the production. I will post it here as soon as it gets ready.
We used 3DMax, Mental Ray, Scanline render (for the Hair and Fur), ZBrush and Combustion for compositing.

thanks !

The hair and fur system of 3dsmax is very good ( it's Shave and Haircut coded by Joe Alter)... The good side of MAx, you can choose between a lot of render engine to speed up your production.

I am focused on fur (trying to learn how to produce realistic animal fur ) Shave n Hair cut is the best solution if you can't code your own system.

Did you use multiple pass for fur ? ( wetness, shadow, reflection, normal color, alpha) or a single pass ?
yes please, a scene breakdown ;)

Very dramatic piece of work here. Very dark. However, I would agree that our Earth is need of some real attention. Wildlife already has it tough enough in this world because of loss of habitat, pollution, poaching, and overfishing, without having to worry about global warming. What a disturbingly odd coincidence, too: I actually saw a sparrow that hung itself just last week. I kid you not! There is actual video proof of it. Although, I doubt he hung himself intentionally, he did hang himself, nonetheless.
It was both a sad, and yet very curious sight to see. Your animation made that little bird's death all the more poignant.

Great looking ad.
Wether or not you BELIEVE in global warming, I think it's a given that man destroys ecossystems aplenty.
The sceneries alone would suffice to deliver the message without the suicides, but what the heck... it really looks great!

Another frontpage for the SeagullsFly team!

I saw that one coming. With the "global warming" message and the overall looking of the movie, which is totally breathtaking, not getting a frontpage would be not fair at all.

By the way, THANK YOU for the confidence of letting me animate the "Fluffy" Bear. Even though the animation is sad in its essence I had lots and lots of fun doing it! Also, It was a honor to work with you guys on another CGTalk hit.

Can´t wait for the next frontpage! Keep it coming!

Perfect!! Great way to get the message across! Screw humans! Save the animals! There are 6 billion of us already and look what we're doing to this planet. We're consciously killing it. Polluted fresh water supplies, polluted oceans, over fishing, deforestation, over harvesting. Homo sapiens has to be the most ignorant and selfish species on this planet. We are worst then rats and cockroaches. Where are our grandkids going to live? What are they going to drink and breathe? Are we really that egocentric that we don't care about the future? Astonishing.

I actually thought the monkey was great! unusual, Ilike the way it was treated, Not everything needs to look the same...
As for the propaganda issue I find the effect of the movie pales in comparison to peoples comments that this is propaganda. It confirms that we are in for a very rough ride because people are only going to wake up too late.
At the risk of hijacking this thread consider this:
50 years ago there were 450 000 lions in the wild. today there are about 20 000.
Leopards went from 700 000 to 100 000, cheetahs from 50 000 to only 12 000 and tigers from 45000 to 3000! and thats just cats. Many species have diminished by 90% in our lifetime and we will live to see many of them disappear in this lifetime. And only then will those people who reckon this is propaganda apologise and say they were wrong. But by then it will make no difference...

I think this movie is a gem, well done guys, keep at it!

redbyte
09-19-2008, 02:49 PM
Sorry but this was actually kinda funny.

Come on... animals commiting suicide to slow piano music? It's something I'd expect to see on a sketch show. I was half expecting the rent-a-crowd to start laughing when the monkey grabbed the vine. But as someone has already said, you didn't have any control over that.

So, I'll just say that it's a very slick looking video. The environments especially, but the animals too.

PS. Was the video shakey and jumpy to anyone else? Maybe it's just my computer.

Cool, you just lumped all environmental issues into one and forgot that this was pushing a warning about global warming! When will you see that not everything is as it appears?

You know I try very hard to make a small footprint on this planet. I have for many years made my own non-toxic house hold products like soaps, shampoo, creams. I grow as much of my own food as I can. I am very careful about what I support and conserve heavily. Possibly more than yourself.

So when I call this propaganda it is not said lightly. I don't buy this message being pushed. Even though I agree that there is so much pollution on this planet it is not funny! Still this is propaganda in my books! Trying to get me to buy into a message through emotional manipulation.

You are free to enjoy the message all you like and I am free to think it was garbage.
