I think it's good for the most part. What I don't dig is the statue. There's a beautiful worn stone surface on the original plate, but at the final matte it looks more like badly bumpmapped cg creation. Also, if the statue has such strong sunlight hitting it, the other parts of the image should be affected by that sunlight too.

That would mean deeper shadows and general colouring on the direction the statue has.

I would be tempted to get rid of the statue altogether. Even without the overly high contrast it still dominates the composition way too much imo.

You really don't need a foreground -indeed with mattes thats pretty much the point...

Plus there's the beginnings of some pretty nice buildings going on there in the background, i would focus on them. In fact it would be a far greater demonstration of skill to edit out the statue and replace that section of the image with something that fits the rest of the plate, and would look good on your reel.

keep it up!

yeh, kill the statue with bump map overkill, strange photoshop filter/lighting thingy and get rid of the two black towers to the right; they look very odd, unbalanced and very recognisable. Then work a little more on the trees, center right. There's also various scale issues with the buildings, check out the windows/height, especially towards the far right.
