Hi All,

New to Maya, please bear with me-

In face mode, (or others for that matter) how do make the selection tool only select the face in front, and not behind it?

Eg, I have a cube, and I want to select the face closest to me by dragging over the little square, but in doing so I am also dragging over the little square of the face on the opposite side and so this face is selected too. How do I stop this?

(In Cinema4D there is an tool option to turn on and off "select hidden". Thsi is the functionality I am looking for in Maya)

Thanks.

oh sorry, you can also go to display>custom poly display and turn on back face culling at the bottom there, i just tried it in my view port that didnt work? so i went there and it worked so that will do it.

Thanks for the reply Levitateme,

Doesn't seem to be working for me though--at least not on a ProxyMesh I created.

did you go into custom poly display for it?

Yeah, tried that. I'm probably just being dim though-either that or occasionally Maya acts funny on my machine and it takes a hard restart to see changes you make to settings like that.

Thanks again though!

I like to use the paint selection tool for that kind of stuff, maybe not the thing your looking for, but its really cool. you can change the brush size by holding down "b" and lmb or mmb, dont know, try out. i think its at edit/paint selection. I put it into the shelf. ctrl+Shift + click on it, but i guess you know :)
bye
