It features the historical and cultural background as well as instructions on the making and the playing of the game. To promote this traditional game, the informative CD-ROM has 3d animation together with interactive interfaces, catering to dynamic and energetic Malaysias especially those who are young and young at heart.

The main role that I play in this animation was mainly on renderings/lighting, rigging, modelings and troubleshoot most of the technical issue.

Gasing Uri - The Spining Top had awarded the Commissioned Student Work Grant Scheme 2002 from the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC), the Cyberjaya-based authority that facilates the MSC. - August 2002

C&C are welcome since I'm not really satisfy with the final result. We were only given 2 months to do all of the content in the CDrom. Your Crits will helps us to get better.

Thanks for viewing.

I think its an excellent piece of work and nothing really to complain about there, it all works together very well and is an impressive piece of character animation with great natural style.

If I were forced to criticise I would probably say that some of the sequences like the winding of the disk onto the string looked a little stiff, other than that I think you should be very happy with the work. Perhaps a more dynamic CGTalk topic title would have pulled in more response.

What was this done for? Is it a commercial/educational animation? There was obviously a lot of work put into it.

Thanks for your reply. i thought this thread was already dead. well... It was done for our local government as an Interactive CDrom to promote our national cultural activities.
Gasing is one of the game which was widely played among malays. For your information, Malaysia is a multi-racial country, and malay is the main population of the country.

I do understand that the topic might not sound interesting enough for most of the people here. Anyway, Thanks for your reply. I'm really appreciate it.

On the one hand it's a wonderfull achievement. Bodyshapes in combination with environments and dynamic movements all in one clip; it's quite a hefty thing to do.
On the other hand there is imidiately so much that can be ackward.
So don't take me wrong, I bow for your work, but with all what that is there you notice the ackward things first, the strange way the spin is rolled up on a what looks like an absolute solid steel rope, the moments that bodymovement is suddenly a bit weird or when the disc gets thrown, but its speed seems to be liniair....

Wonderful rendering, excelent camera work, beautifull atmosphere, but I'm wondering wether live footage would not have suited the purpose of your clip better.

Ps: I don't think the subject of your clip isn't interesting for people here, but the clips are a bit hard to find; a straight link from cgtalk to the clips might help here.

UnlikelyCorny: well... thanks for ur suggestions. Yes, I do feel the same on ur comment. well... it's really unfortunate while we were animating the animation. one of our group member has left us. and we've left no choice to finish the renderings without furthur improvements. If I've the time, i'd happy to animate it myself.

I'll just pull a straight link here.
