View Full Version : Very Small Bones

Today i rigged a character, but when i imported it into my scene it was way way too big.

So i removed the skin modifier, shrank the mesh and deleted the bones. Then i quicky re-created the bones, but now they are on a very small scale. i am trying to set up the IK with the HI solver, but the bones dont behave in the same way now as they did when they where much larger.

They dont flip out or anything but ( and i dont really know howe to explain this ) when i move the ankle the upper bones of the leg dont appear to be as flexible.

Does anyone know why this is.
How can i fix it.
I there any way for the file to think that although its all built on a small scale, the co-ordinates will work the same as if it were on a larger scale.

Hope someone can help

Not quite sure but did you just scale the whole thing down and went on from there ?
If so you might need to reset a scale somewhere, reset the scale of the object, before applying skin again - i may be wrong but i don't think the size bones are created matters that much, i would say that the size of the mesh and it's scaling factor would be playing a bigger part, and it may be acting weird because you scaled it down.

I don't think you should build up a bone system that would act up as if it were built on a larger scale, it would look awkward, methinks; you'd better build everything to scale.

Cheers for that, Heres what i did.

Removed the skin modifier
scaled down the mesh
Deleted the original bones
made new bones to scale of mesh
added Ik (heres where it goes funny)

Thing is i have one character to have in many different scenes. Not all built by me!. Indeed my own scene was built by me, but was the first time with a boned character and didnt think it would make any difference.

One possibility is to scale the scene to fit the mesh, but this could be a problem as some of the scenes i am animating within already containn boned characters. , so whatever i do there will be a problem with one of the characters.

Any suggestions?

Also i m having problems with volumetric fog. When i save a scene it doesnt seem to save the volumetric fog settings and i have to start again. Any way around this? maybe i should put this in a seperate thread.

Thanks again, Kingo
