Hi, I am extremely new to Maya, and 3d modeling in general. I have been looking for good tutorials, and have finally found one that I can follow with my lack of knowledge. But, I have encountered a problem.

The author tells me to split the object down the center and mirror, allowing me to only have to work with one side of the object. I select the object I want to mirror and I select Polygons > Mirror Geometry and the item mirrors, but the mirrored side doesn't change when I move around the side I'm editing.

I know this is a rediculous question for all of you Maya greats out there, but I need your help. :) Thanks a bunch and sorry to waste a lot of your time!

Howdy. Goto Edit>Duplicate>Options...(the little box) In the options make the scale -1 for the axis you want to mirror across, then choose Instance instead of Copy for the Geometry Type. Voila!
