Hello all, I would like to start off by apologizing if this question either a) doesnt belong here or b) has already been covered.

I am currently running 3ds release 9, and am trying to put together a short animation sequence. I have rigged and textured several models that are somewhere in the 500k-750k poly count. My main question is this;

Should i seperate each of the characters to take some load off of my system (Dell PWS M90) and incorporate each character in his own save file. basically putting soldier #1, and soldier #2 in two different files. If I did this is there a simple way to have 2 or more characters through the animation process interact with each other, besides having them in the same exact scene. and if not is there a way to import 1 character from a save file that is already rigged/boned, and has the dummy helpers attached into the scene with your current character.

My end result is to have several soldier models in the scene at the same time interacting with other characters/environment. but with even 3-4 characters, it hampers my system (nvidia 3500, 4 gigs ram) and i receive several errors when attempting to render. (usually shutdown)

just curious as to the best practice is for having several models in the scene at the same time. please let me know if you require further explination and thanks for the assistance.

Take a look in the help file (f1), search for "xref scene" or "xref file".
