Hey guys, I'm having a problem with max5. hope someone can help. maybee you've run into this problem yourself and solved it.

I'm skinning a character and there seems to be a glitch with the envelopes.

that is, every time I try to grab a cross-section like this one:

the whole thing (both cross-sections on that end) collaps to a single point but the gizmo stays where it is. it looks like this :

I've tested it a bit, and it only seems to be happening when skin used with a biped. there is no problem when other objects are used as bones.

I can adjust the size of the envelopes with the spinners, but I don't like that....and I want to know what's going on!

If anyone can help, I greatly appreciate it! thanks!

Can't seem to see your pics Yorgo12345.

In the meantime, are you using skin or physique? (I can't tell without the pictures!)

Damnation upon these free web servers... I'll find another way to link my pics....

in the meantime, I am using max 5 with CS3 its skin not physique.

let me just point out that its a software glitch, max is "acting funny" as it does from time to time.

untill I get the pictures up, I'll just explain a bit more:

on the end of each bone is a set of rings, inner & outer representing full attatchment to the bone and blended/faded attachmetnt. ont these rings are transform handles (you're with me so far...right?) these transform handles let change the size/radius of the rings. here's where the problem is: when I try to move one of the handles, the whole set of both rings collapse down to a radius of 0.001

obviously, this is very frustrating!

I hope that's clear for now

thanks for replying Erilaz, I appreciate the help!

The short answer is THAT'S BAD.:)

I've never seen this problem beore with skin and biped. Have you tried deleting the skin mod and trying again? In the case of glitches, that can be enough to fix it.

The only other thing I can think of to suggest is a workaround. Using vertex weights intead of envelopes.

Can anybody else? I can't say I'm much of an expert on skin.

BTW/ I solved the problem sort-of.

I installed the 5.1 update and now everything works fine so...back to work I go!

...still, it was a weird problem, I wonder what caused it.
