View Full Version : How do you render glass or shiny objects with graphite?
Lexalotacus 09-10-2008, 06:36 PM I've been playing around but I cant seem to come up with anything realistic or even convincing... I'm using mechanical pencils and plain acid free sketchbook paper.
Does anyone know any good tutorials or resources for learning certain ways of rendering materials with pencil?? Please?
Thanks,
L

Always show examples of the problem you're having when asking such questions, since it would help us help you troubleshoot what you're doing wrong. Post images of your failed attempts and we can start troubleshooting.

well I pretty much don't know where to start... I'm going for the sort of shiny reflective material like this, (http://bp3.blogger.com/_XKWx0QPvUpM/RaSotiIDvuI/AAAAAAAAAHI/wuY2yBXHjOU/s1600-h/RivenPhoenix4.jpg) but end up just having lines parallel to each other in different shades...
Any advice?

It's really difficult to help you without having a look at your drawing. Also are you drawing from references? If not that would be a good place to start. Even if you just drop a chrome texture on some primitives in whatever 3D software you use. Have a look at how they respond to different environments and orientations.

I've used a sharp craft knife / scalpel and cut slices or wedges of a rubber (eraser) and used tweezers to hold it and rub out the highlights and reflections you'd see in glass.
