Hi all, I'm in.

This is my first challenge so I hope I can finish it in time and if it is gonna be any good. i cant wait to get started though :)

OK here we go
this Icon is gonna be a woman!!! hell yeah she is going to be the hottest cyber babe ever!!! she will be the star of a game that takes place in the middle ages where knights, wizards, thieves and all kind of monsters ruled the earth.
Armed whit a sword she is going to have to fight here way trough this barbaric world.
I guess it is obvious that this will be a action game.

I will try my best to make this as beautiful as I can however I don't have a whole lot of modeling experience since I'm just a simple photoretoush artist and I just started modeling like 5 months ago.
Im doing this to get better at modeling and have a whole lot of fun (cause it is fun) and not to be the best of this challenge (cause I'm not the best)

ill try to get a sketch up (I cant draw at all) and keep all of you ppl posted on my progress.

PS: excuse my English it is not my native language

Here is my latest update:

Okay here is a VERY ugly sketch I made just a minute ago in illustrator, I didn't want to spent much time on it so I did it REALY quickly
it shows the pose I have in mind for this character. Its a really tense pose, like she ready to cut someone's head off or something.

It obviously doesn't show what she is going to look like.
Well... you can see that she is going to have red hair. She will get red hair because I somehow associate red hair whit the middle ages. I don't know why...I just do

Here is a first start on the head I made today.
it is stil very basic and lacks a lot of detail that will be added later. I want to create A rough body first and then go further into detail

Hello -- Your first challenge - good luck... I see the face comming along nicely... I will check back to see what develops

Nice concept.Anyway, who doesn't want to see hot cyberbabe.
Just a few coments on the face. I know it's still rough but still, try to make her forehead biggger, and corner of the eyelids sharper.
No more comments because it's wip, keep going. :airguitar

Colin de bink
06-05-2003, 06:23 PM
Thanks for the comments!!!

@genesis thank you for your advise I will take your advise and use it for when I get too these parts of the model again. I don't think I would have seen that the forehead was to small if you didn't mention it. Haven't done anything whit the head since my last update but I will in the next few day's

Anyway I've worked on the body today and am very happy whit the way she is progressing (still a lot to be done though) I want to make her slim and athletic (she is a fighter after all) didn't make her hands and feet yet. I also didn't make her boobs yet, don't know why, I guess I just wanted to follow the ribcage. Boobs will be added later!!!

Here is my latest update:

I can't believe how people like you come to modelling a great thing like that from a couple of lines in your sketch....

You're just perfect I'd say.. keep up the good work.

Colin de bink
06-06-2003, 06:10 AM
thanks akocan, i didn't just use that sketch though, I'm also using a lot of ref pictures of real people and there are rules for proportions and stuf like that so I spent a lot of time studing those shapes ;)

here is a little boob update, I'm not happy whit there shape&size but I'll make that better wen I modeled the clothing in that area.

just doing this before I go to work so I dont have much time today but after today I have 3 whole day's off, then the real modeling starts :applause:

Hi again a little update
I only made the hands today, still rough , no fingernails.
in this picture I'm also showing my "proportion model" I use it to determine the right proportions for my model, does anyone use something similar for this? (just curios)

http://members.chello.nl/c.nederpel/pictures/colindebink05.gif

now on to the feet, I think I'm going to pull a all nighter and see how tired I can get :)
it gets way too hot in my room during the day :annoyed:

griffdrc
06-08-2003, 06:19 AM
first off, ur english is better than mine and its my only language

second, the shape of the model looks good, its the textureing and hair, (the little things) that set the good above the rest

Colin de bink
06-08-2003, 05:47 PM
thanks guys

Well im done whit the feet.
Yeah I got all my bodyparts modelled now :)

Now I'm going to rebuilt the head and add detail and then I'm going to rig and pose it.

here is a new pic:

Nice progress Colin, few critiques :
Arms and legs are too thin, make them thicker, you desperatly need more details on body for example neeples, belly button, more defined knecaps.Fix that and you'll have much better model mate.
Keep going :buttrock:

Colin de bink
06-09-2003, 08:44 AM
yeah you are right on all these points you made, thanks ill be looking in to it
I won't be making any nipples though, since she isn't going to be runnig arount barenaked they will not be visible. and I think it would be a waste of time to make them

I sould be back whit a more detailed model at the end of this day

What, aren't you going to make her ultra-sexy by making the material of her costume thin enough so her niples poke through?

;)

haha, well she is still going to be sexy and
I might change my mind later :)

Haya Colin,

The head, i mean her head looks a bit to round in my opinion, maybe you should emphasize the cheackbones/cheacks a bit and make it a bit more 'character' ,it's to smooth or rather rounded i think.
also the forehead should be a bit more taller i guess....

but still I think it's going to be  :buttrock: !!

Colin de bink
06-11-2003, 07:29 PM
yeah hey SpooX your probably right
I'll work on the cheekbone some more,
still cant get the forehead right
hmm lots of work to be done

hello everybody
It has been almost a week since my last update. I whas busy whit work all week besides that I got realy intimedated by some of the other treads whit real butifull models.
any way I'm making some slow progress here is an update:

http://members.chello.nl/c.nederpel/pictures/colindebink08.jpg

Thekkur
06-16-2003, 12:26 AM
nice progress!

few critiques:
I'd make the hands a little bigger, the waist a little wider/ the lower half a little bigger, the lower back shorter, th forehead higher and the cheeckbones a little pointier to add some flavour :)

It's really getting sexier!

griffdrc
06-16-2003, 01:01 AM
here's a little fact i learned... the average persons forearm is the same length as their foot...

Virtuoso
06-16-2003, 06:31 AM
Hi Colin de Bink.............:wavey:

Thekkur & griffdrc make some good observations.

Waist should be shortened for sure unless you are going for the toon type caricature style? But you are not.

The forearms too must be shortened considerably.Raise the cheekbones abit too.

It's funny to me because all I have just said is exactly Thekkur's comments. But it's really all I saw when I first took a look at your work as well. Just keep tweaking and pulling, you know all that good stuff,it'll get smoother and more in balance very soon.

Just keep going,I think you'll get farther than you think real soon.

See you around.

Colin de bink
06-16-2003, 10:46 AM
thanks guys for replying to my post

okay so let me make a list of what you say I sould change:

1 make hands bigger
2 waist shorter/wider
3 forearms shorter
4 alter cheekbones + forehead higher

In my next update I will have this all changed, if not you can all come over here and kick me :scream:

Colin de bink
06-16-2003, 10:46 PM
hi all

wel I've made some changes, I didn't have that much time today unfortunetly.
I think I did all the things on my list (see prev. post) as you might notice the left hand is total crap, I think I will revert it too its original shape and then tune it again. but for now I'm going to sleep a little. :p

Hey,

That's coming along nicely! Good to see dutch modelers!

My own skills are not of top level but i thought i might add some crits anyway.

Watch the proportions though, if this is ging to be the hottest babe ever: now she suffers from long body syndrome and she has no defined ribcage and hips.

Get a ref and fix it, it won't be much more than some scaling and moving so that can be done quite quick. Then she can be hot!

Actually i think moving the lower body up until there is about a handwidth between lower ribcage and the upper part of the pelvis would do the trick.

The hands should be bit bigger. Your hand covers the length and half the width of your face (try)

Move her eyes down a little so they are about halfway the head or make the forehead higher

And make the hips wider. Waist might be slender but hey! it's a babe right!

GL!

E.

Hey erik
I really seem to attract dutch ppl, lol
(must be the name right?)

tnx for your tips, I have made a lot of changes since my last update but I won't be updating untill this weekend

I realize that it is still way too "barbiedoll"
but Im working on it

my next update will be a great improvement (I think)

Colin de bink
06-22-2003, 09:26 PM
hi all,
made some clothes and I made her hips and legs a little bigger
I didn't change anything on the head or the arms, I will change them when I get to it.

http://members.chello.nl/c.nederpel/pictures/colindebink10.jpg

Oh BTW this isn't all she will be wearing, It is just a start ;)

Virtuoso
06-22-2003, 11:52 PM

Hi @Colin, me like your work, but have a few comments on that one.
Well i hope you havent forgot about the ears :) i think adding them will improve the overal look and change the apperance. Everything else is looking great the char. is well modeled, maybe the pose is not to natural, but all of that is only me. Waiting for more CG
Take care

Colin de bink
06-29-2003, 10:12 AM
@Jelwa OH NO I FORGOT THE EARS :)
at first I tought well she is going to have a whole lot of hair to cover that area up but now I think I might just have to make them afterall, I am gonna do that some time this week when I revise the head a little
but for now on whit the rest of her clothing, she should not be running around in her underware should she
I made up some kind of cape/jacket and a skirt.

here is a little paintover/photoshop kind of thing to show what I want to make:
http://members.chello.nl/c.nederpel/pictures/colindebink12.jpg

Oh still @Jelwa I think it is kind of cool you say that my char. is well modeled becouse well this is the first char im actualy modeling. all I've done before this is mess around in maya PLE and now I got maya 5 and this is the first thing im making in it. so thanks!

well on too the modeling, there is just 2 weeks left and I still got to do so manny things

Colin de bink

Hey Colin......Your English is quite good, much better than my Dutch...... My Flemish is pretty good though.:p

Get those ears in,finish her,as I said earlier she has come a long way,you just get better,it has shown here, keep it going. And some day looking into rigging more as a practice. But little by you show improvement taht's what's most important.Nice job, keep her going.

07-07-2003, 04:48 PM
thank you antnik and virtuoso for dropping by time and time again it is apreciated

@virtuoso Flemish is pretty much the same as Dutch but you probably know that right :)

okay I made the ears (finaly) and hair, I didn't realy know the best way to make hair so I just made something up
I took a cube, sretched it realy long and put a shader on it whit a trasparent/opake ramp on it so it looks a litlle like hairs please let me know if it is crappy or not. I need to do some tweaking still but I kinda like it

We have ears.allright you did it.You have improved this character more from day 1 in big steps.Good work Colin.

With the hair done in this way I would add more segments, more bend and a bit of a twist. Also create more individual lengths.

Ok Mr.Improvement by the second, keep it going.Looking better all the time.

Goed Werk! Nog meer.

@Virtuoso hoho hold on for a second, "Mr. Improvement by the second"? don't you think you are overreacting a little.
well I want to thank you for your amazing support during this challenge you really kept me going. dank u wel

well I think I've met my challenge criteria, I wanted to have fun and get better at CG. I think I got a little better at it and I sure had fun doing it so I guess that makes this challenge a success for me
surely I still got a lot to learn, this is just my fist step into the wonderful world of 3D
next time I'm going to concentrate on rigging, texturing, lighting and rendering.
all these things I didn't or didn't do good enough in this challenge

I'm now going to wrap it up whit these final images, I don't have any time in the next couple of days so I wrapped it up already. comments are always welcome, if the deadline gets extended I might have some time to make adjustments

greatings

Hey Colin, this turned out pretty good. The modelling needs a bit more work and it could do with some textures, but it's a good basis to work from. I get the feeling you've learned a lot from this challenge. I'm looking forward to your future attempts. Keep with it man.

I'm glad you like my model. I think it pretty much sucks :surprised
I wont be texturing this baby, I've done some stupid thing in modeling that makes a good UV map almost impossible to make
anyway there is no need to be sad about that cause I've noted down all the mistakes I've made whit this model and I thought up some good exercises to practice on some things I want to incorporate in my next challenge.
