View Full Version : Stumped by this rig.

I'm trying to rig the model pictured, but can't quite get my head around how to do it. I assume it would involve look-at constraints, and maybe the dummies are necessary for this rig.
I can't use max bones however. The way this model works, is that handle (parent of the model) is on the right and I want to move the object on the left back and forth using an IK type setup.
Could anyone point me to a tutorial that might help me with this?

This thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=5065835#post5065835) might help, even though it's not controlled by the components you want, you should be able to get your 'goal' to drive them.

Have you looked into reaction manager? I'm a novice 3D modeler so my question is actually more of a question than a suggestion.

it's actually really simple to setup with a basic tools.

1. create three locators, two and the ends and one in the middle. location constrain middle one to both outer locators, so the middle one always keeps in the middle when you move side ones around;

2. create bone chain, starting on the outer locator, and ending in the middle one, like shown in the picture. put a IK chain on that bone. location constrain root bone to outer locator, location constrain IK target to middle locator.

3. repeat step 2 three more times.

4. you can move around outer locators to see you setup work like a charm.

Did similiar here, using Path and Position Constraints.
