View Full Version : Alpha trouble

Rendering with MR - physical sun/sky for my lighting with FinalGather turned on - color image renders fine - but the alpha layer is incomplete, it has kinda of a gradual fade toward the top of my bricks in the image... what's going on here? I need a solid white alpha like the grass area so I can use it to knock out my background in photoshop...

*update* I've narrowed the issue down to it being cause by the material in the scene - mia_material for the bricks - and looking closely, it's almost like the alpha is showing a reflection of the surrounding scenery. What's really strange is all the other objects in the scene are mia_materials as well - the ground/grass, hammer - which seem to render out to the alpha just fine... I can't tell what's different between the materials that would cause this...

Ideas?

just apply a white surface shader and use it as a matte

cheers

Have you checked the "Pass Custom Alpha Channel" under Render Settings > Mental Ray > Custom Entities?

thank you Skunk and DJ!
Both methods work beautifully...

Still not sure why I was getting those weird results that it looks like a reflection in my previous attempts, but no matter, running out of time on this project
