View Full Version : I Love Japan by Cristobal Vila
mike33 09-09-2008, 08:47 PM Hi All,
I stopped by Cristobal's web site the other day for some inspiration
and found he did more work... not sure if EIAS was used... or if he posted this work in CGTalk already...

Cristobal, if you should read this: I truly love your work. Your understanding of the 3D tools and how to use light and textures is an amazing thing to see. Great work.
Cheers,
Mike

Indeed beautiful work. When i discovered it a while ago at the Modo Forum i thought also it was rendered in EI due to it´s painterly EI/PS look. He should IMHO also give a try to the "beauty render mode button" in Modo...;-)

Hi guys :-)
Thank you very much for your kind comments about my work (even if I have not used EIAS this time).
Modo is a great tool (not a complete tool, however, some important lacks on animation and some specific features) and a joy to use. It has been a pleasure to create this project inside Modo and I have learn a lot, for sure.
Does this mean that I have leave EIAS for ever? Nope, at all ;-)
Now I plan to start a new complex animated personal project. Modo will be used for modeling/UV purposes, but a great part of animation will be ElectricImage (maybe with the complement from another aplication).
If I need to do a complex, large project (lots of polys and really big textures) I will return to my old EIAS.
Simply put: choose the best (and best-known) tool for each problem.
I hope you find interesting my tutorials (http://www.etereaestudios.com/training_img/subd_tips/index.htm) (they are applicable to other subd softwares, for sure). I will drop a note here every time I upload some new chapter.

All,
google translate does a fine job with the Etérea site, at least to English.
Cristobal,
thanks for all the work you put into both your art and your explanation of how you do it. You work has long been inspirational. Your willingness to share has as well. As I heard so often in grade school, 'kindness is contagious'. You've been a tremendous asset to a lot of animators.
I look forward to seeing what your next project is.

Yon,
Thank you for the Google Translate note. I've always wanted to see what the rest of his training materials contained and hadn't thought of running it through Google Translator. Now Ian doesn't have to do it (like he has that much free time these days :) ). I now have them all as pdf files I can read over and over when I'm off-line. There's just so much there.

Ross,
you're welcome. When I discovered that process for myself, Etérea was the first place I went. I was great to be able to read most of the info shared there. It's quite an amazing resource.

Cristobal's site in incredible. When I was first looking at getting DVGarage's 3DToolkit, I stumbled upon his site. His work, more than anything else, made me want to get the toolkit (Even more than it being used in Star Wars). Now I have 7.0.1 and can actually complete the Sentinel tutorial.

Amazing work, as always. I hope, in a few months we will see some amazing new work from him with Tesla... who knows?
The amount of detail is awesome!
And the tutorials are top notch, the man is a master in all the senses... and a teacher. Tutorials from Cristobal are allways interesting, beautifully done and clear.

P.S. Cristobal, cuando yo sea grande quiero ser como tu. :D

Hola Cristobal, i was doing some flowers from a previous thread and i saw your leaf and they look like you can sense them. You could feel the texture of the leafs or at least imagine how will they feel against your hand . Incredible work. Cojonudo ostias.
Gracias,
Edgard

I hope you enjoy it :-)
Best regards.

Thanks Cristobal , we were just talking about the different methods to create a 3d text in the C4D forum, i guess Modo has more tools that make it easier the process with subdivision tools, the thing is that it makes it very heavy on the polycount.
I did my flower with SubD they came out farely good but the lack of thickness didnt gave it that special touch i just did a Plane SUbdivided and start pullng points.
Missing the thickness of my petals was a distraction mistake by my side. :) oh well. Next time. As i could see some of the wireframes of the leafs or flowers you created for I love Japan
If only there was a way to keep your mesh not to dense.
Thanks
Edgard
