How long can you keep with your current software before you have to upgrade.

I was thinking about buying Maya, but just noticed the price of a upgrade.

This got me a little worried because I wouldn't be able to afford to pay £600 every time Maya release a upgrade.

If you were taught on Maya 4.0 would you still be ok if you were asked to use Maya 5.0, 6.0 (when they are released) at work.

You can use your current version as long as you want, there is no time limit. Just that the price of upgrades goes up the farther away you get(Maya 4.0 to 5.0 is more expensive then 4.5 to 5.0). Also if you ever want to get support you will have to pay back support.

Some productions that go multiple years at larger places will stay with one version for its entire run(2-3 years).
