hi,

this is my new project, and is my first attempt at 'proper' character animation (with lip-sync and facial expressions etc). pretty simple model, but its also my first go at doing any kind of skinning and morphing so thought it best. (made in 3ds max btw) still got to do textures and maybe some arms wouldn't go amiss :applause:

hope you like it.

file is here (http://www.44t4.com/dude/netdude.avi) (divx, 0.5mb)

and heres a pic

who can guess where the sound is from? no prizes!

ROTFLMA!!! Well, that just made my day! Put some arms on him and "The Dude" will be ready to go!

glad you like it! anyone know any good tutorials on texturing- want to place bump maps on certain areas, which move with the mesh, if that make sense.

cheers

Argh...I'm at school and I downloaded that thing without realizing that these stupid computers don't have divx and now I'm just pissy and don't feel like downloading divx...I'll check it out later. Meh! :)

Well worth getting the codec, that dude is hillarious... and no, he doesn't need arms. :)

really? that would be cool, having some trouble with the arms! he just seems to lazy to have arms, they'd just drag on the floor.

any crits on animation? all face done with morpher in max, so not the easiest thing in the world to animate.

cheers

The dude needs some teeth; at the moment deaf people think he's called the 'moom'.

It's looking very good indeed. Build him some pearly whites, go on.

No arms, he's got this neat Monsters Inc thing going on as it is. With arms he's just another dude with arms. :D

i like you datter, you make things easy. can i work for you? you'd make a great boss! :) might try and develop feet more in that case, so maybe he can gesture with them, bit like that early mike they did thats on the monsters inc, dvd. got him shuffling and tapping them abit on this one, but think he needs more movement/ expression somehow.

gonna try do some teeth if i get a chance, got finals next week, so should be revising :shame:

anyone recognised the voice yet? c'mon, its an easy one!

He could maybe do with having his hips move a little more, so when he emphasises a word, he really strikes a pose.

Just a thought...

yeah, that would be cool, think he needs to shift his weight about a bit more. i can see what you mean.

trying to talk my uni into buying shag:fur, but not getting very far. anyone got any ideas about how to texture him. how do i get textures to 'stick' to the mesh, at the mo they just slide when the morpher moves, pssing me off now. must be a real easy way i'm missing.

(using max btw, with morpher and bones)

have you placed the UVW-map (or Unwrap) modifier below the morpher modifier in the stack?

yeah, which is what i thought would fix it! gonna have to do a bit more playing i think, may have done something wrong somewhere.

havent tried any unwraping yet tho. would that help. dont know much about texturing.

i want to just have a main texture to him, then place bump maps over certain areas, like his forehead which i could maybe animate. also, i wanna give him a little beard or stuble (think jeff bridges!), how can i link an object to certain vertices on a mesh, so it moves whilst morphing. i've heard of 'linked xform' but max help files dont say much.

cheers for any help.

UPDATE, spent some time doing hair - using the scatter tool, whish i had some kind of pluggin but this kinda works. gotta work on diffuse and the bump is only on the knees, and not really enough. takes an age to render but i think it looks cool.

any opinions?

you don't think his beard looks like some other kind of hair, more common in that region of a human body?
