View Full Version : ApplyingDiffuseMaps
Kinematics 06-04-2003, 03:25 PM Well my question is how do i apply a diffuse map, i cant seem to figure it out as applying it doesnt seem to be alike applying bumpmaps or displacementmaps. The docs havent been any help because for some reason i cant locate anything on that question.
Thank you very much for the help guys

I think he means that the concept (or understanding the physical attributes of a diffuse map) is perhaps an alien issue.....
'Diffuse' light is the exponential diminishment of reflected light from world in relation to local colour absorbancy, reflectivity and translucency of.....naaa what am I saying! RTFM etc.
APPLYING a diffuse map is no different than 'applying' a bump, or ambient or colour etc....----> Just think greyscale values....

Thanks guys the info you provided was great and still helpful although i think i didnt really ask it properly.
In the hypershader when you apply say a bumpmap to a shader, you mclick and drag on top of the shader and select "bumpmap" but in the case of diffusemap, there isnt one.
So how do i go about linking my img to the shader as a diffuse map
Thank you and srory i didnt phrase it well enough

ahhhhh, i see. if you MMB click and drag the file onto the shader then simply choose the "other" option at the bottom of the list. otherwise just open up the shader in the Attribute Editor and assign the map to the diffuse slot that way.

Yeah like TheWraith said, this opens the channel box, where you can link the image files' Out Alpha to the diffuse channel of the shader.
