The Idea is fantastic and modelling are really - really good . I wonder about the reference of the model. Do you get anywhere or maybe a sketch of yours?...If so, I would like to see the sketch though but if not then probably the pic that you using.

Thanks !

Thanks everyone for the support!
some minor changes here:
http://www.maolu.it/oggi/vecio12.jpg

[danne82]: i tried to follow your advice and put some more flesh near the plugs. The rest is up to the shader...i hope!:curious:

[razzi]:Sorry but there's nearly no reference here! All in mind excepted for this small image i used in order to figure out the way some wrinkles behave...

I really like this guy, although I don't think I would hang around with him much. Too cranky. :)

I do have one nit-pick -- It seems like the mechanisms that you have replacing his ears are a bit too high on his head. His ears would have originally appeared a bit lower, especially on his right side. Are those units replacing his ear sockets? In this case they should be lower I think.

If not, maybe you can add some scar tissue or something to show where the ears were hacked off. :)

realy nice work :buttrock: model and textures are amazing :applause:

are you going to make the body too? :)

maolu
06-21-2003, 12:17 AM
[] jellyfish - :argh: You're right!
The mechanisms are a bit too high. I'll have to lower them, TNX!

[] REZI-st - For now I don't want to model the entire body, i was considering only to make a simple shirt or cloth and some sort of neuralware on his back receiving cables and plugs coming from his head.

Thanks and wait for the bumps!!

Another little update.
This time it's the bumpMap...

http://www.maolu.it/oggi/vecio16.jpg

Now i think i should focus on the shading network...or maybe painting the specMap...dunno...

[i'm considering the opportunity to transfer this topic into the "Focused Critiques" one...:curious: ]

Yep !
This bump rocks :applause:
(but if you want a crit, the only thing I can say is I don't think it looks like a real old man skin bump)

You mean it looks like a fake old man skin bump?!?! :) :)

Excellent job with the modeling, very impressive. Color map looks good and so does the bump! Keep at it. :applause:

I know, it was a not-so-cleaver-crit. It happens, when someone wants to be smart at any cost :)

BTW, what I mean is your bump describes very well the "porosity" of the skin, but not the marks of passing time: I think you need a little bit more wrinkled bump, if you want your guy looks old.

love everything about this model. Crits: No evebrows makes it hard to see. The areas along major wrinkles seem too "clean", no color variation with the wrinkles. Seems like the deep wrinkles should be darker in color. SOme stubble later.

The lines flow very well. This baby is really coming to life

ok guys, another little update!

I changed skin color on the wrinkles as sumpm1 suggested.
Added big moustaches and eyebrow (only the left one, i'm planning not to make the right one)

I also decided he should be blind, so this is the result:

Waiting for your critiques...

The textures are realy coming along! This is really cool. The only thing I noticed that bothers me is that the skin sorta looks like, I dunno how to explain, like it's make up. Or like it's rubber or something. I'm not sure I think maybe it's too specular or something. I hope that makes sense. The details like the vains and such are truely amazing though.

[cutnpaste]:(Genova? ;))
As you read he was mented to be blind. :)
Do you think is a bad idea to make him blind or that the eye is not so well made?

[d4rk]: You're right, I'm not happy of the skin too... The problem is that i don't understand what to change, i tryed so many shaders!!!!

another little update...

This time i started working on neuralwares and things, adding some textures here and there.
The work is slow, but still moving...

http://www.maolu.it/oggi/vecio21.jpg

I'll have to finish all the cables, then i'll spend some time on bumps on the rear side of the head...

bye!

Hey, great job!

My only comment will be...the eye area.

Usaully, in an old person's face, the eye area sags more.

GOOD JOB.

I really love the hearing aid!!!!! :D

Great work

There is alot of detail in the model and the texture, I really like the look of the skin too.

Judging by the wires, Im guesing you used 3D Studio Max, if so I was wondering how you created the hair, did you use Shaghair?

Are you going to model the whole body? or are you just creating a head?

I have no crits, it's looking amazing.

Thx, keep it up!

Sorry, I'm using maya. :)
I made the screenshots with the option 'wireframe on shaded' on...

I'm planning not to model the whole body, but only a part of a shirt and some machines receiving the cables on his back...

TNX!
