A pro matte painter friend of mine just got home from MPC London and today he went to my place, showing a newb like me some tricks. We picked up one of my old matte painting tries and he guided me and taught me loads! Here is before and after:

It is a lot better!

The ravine was too dark and monotonous before, and that little bit of light reflection gives a lot of depth to the image.

Also, the sky is better now. Looks more natural.

nice detail , I see you got some nice advice from your friend, now you need to think about visual composition and concept and you can have a great matte painting!

Thanks for the answers! Hmm, James, what do you mean? Should I change the entire composition? I'm not sure I understood you completely there :)
