SheepFactory
09-06-2008, 02:33 AM
Welcome to the weekly animation session 5. This weeks title is Drunk

Please get your character drunk and animate him trying to do an action while drunk. For example: Walk, run, trying to climb steps, trying to open the car door, etc.

You can use free rigs.

Please upload your videos to vimeo.com and post the link here. make sure to post the WIP's so you get critiqued.

If we get more than 5 entries I am buying everyone beer.

Lets do it!

Started the initial blocking tonight. Obviously, extremely rough blocking only, missing quite a few breakdowns and the timing. Will get it further along tomorrow.

Awesome will start this later today with initial blocking. Never animated someone to be drunk before. Aside from my first aniamation which was purly by acident.

blocking01: http://www.vimeo.com/1688946

only had about 45 minutes to tweak the animation tonight from it's previous rendition, but any feedback would be appreciated. still plenty of in-betweens needed for the second half and the timing is also pretty rough. hopefully, I can make some significant progress on this tomorrow.

Hi, everyone. :)

There's my old animation that fits this challenge pretty well. Because of it's sth old, I don't put it here as a challenge animation, because it'd break challenge rules. All i want is to show it because of theme is fitting.

Quite nice animation... you need to pay more attention to ease in and out in animation curves as well as the lack of animation of knee sviwel angels (max) - it would help a lot in this situation to make his knees float a lot more. Good luck for your future animations!

Nice. Looks a bit like slow motion in the beginning. The jump is good but I think catching the top with his arms so bent makes him look too light, if you straitened his arms a bit after the catch then bend them again as he lifts himself it could look better. The climbing and falling over the other side is good, made me laugh.

is this one going to go on for a while? i was going to jump in on the next one but if this is going to be up for a while, i might just do this one this week.

I was thinking the same thing. When does this session end and the next one start (not that it would be a bad thing to do all the current and past sessions).

I did one of those for one of my AnimationMentor assignments. Youtube messes up the synch a bit but the synch wasn't great to begin with.:)

and here's something from long ago, an Animation Showdown entry called "queezy" (not quite drunk but close to it)

Unfortunately I don't know, have you tried uploading it already? I'm sure someone here should be able to help you but it's a bit quiet in this corner of the forum so maybe post the question in another section, although I'm sure you will get a answer from here within a week, no wait, I mean, um, err, yeah about a week.

A block-in. There are parts I know of that I should have added more poses and there are parts where I added too many and was unnecessary. Critiques would be nice. Thanks guys.

I think the problem is that there are not enough people participating, also one week is often too short for creating an animation especially if it's done during spare time and evenings only. Maybe it would be better to have a monthly challenge?

Ha, and if there was a monthly challenge and the person in charge has a full time job as well, I highly recommend working with at least one or two others to share the workload to keep up the challenge and be involved.

Set your 'display options' to 'Last Year' and you'll see I've tried to keep up a monthly challenge. Proud to say we went for 17 months :buttrock:

I really thank those who wanted to help me out but by then my strength to keep up the challenge and include others was not enough.

Anyone interested in starting their own challenges and would like to hear from my past experience let me know. I'd be GLAD to help you out.

On a side note for those who remember me, I've been working for over a year at my company and I'm doing full time rigging and animation!

man, this thread is a mess. :arteest: I can't believe how much fluff I found, people posting stuff that has nothing to do with the challenge... and the challenge itself is a world of chaos.

I think there should be clearer rules, what is allowed and what is not allowed in the competition, and someone to decide when the challenge starts and when it ends, like... precisely, and when the voting starts and when it ends, just as precisely. and a forum thread is far from ideal when it comes to voting.

Splinter
08-11-2010, 02:19 AM
I know, I know. :) I picked up the challenge about a year ago. No one was doing anything with it. The whole area was like a deserted town. Then all of a sudden I noticed people were wanting to start something here but no one did anything. So I stepped up, because I'm like everyone else. I have a passion for animation and would like to find away to hang out with other animators. The organization is a little difficult to keep up with. Eh... I try. I just have a lot of other responsibilities I have to take care of as well.

For the record there is a precise start and end to the challenge. Sorry it used to be posted. The deadline is at the end of the month at midnight (GMT -7:00 Mountain Time (US and Canada)). I'll make sure to add that to the rules in next month's thread. I like the idea of making a precise date for the voting. I don't know why I haven't thought of that :banghead:. There are other things that I will have to display a precise date for I will have to make a note of that. That information should be up soon enough. I recently found myself with more free time to spare. So hopefully I could really grab this challenge by the reins.

Lmao!!! As for the postings and the other stuff that have nothing to do with the challenge, I can't move them or turn some threads into threads with a sticky on it. Because I'm not an administrator so I don't have the ability to do that stuff. I messaged an admin. but I got no response. So I live with it and try to keep everything in a "controled" chaos.

I would like to get rid of some of the threads. Atleast make a couple changes with some of the threads. This one especially because it was apart of the challenge along time ago. So it has no relevance anymore. I would like for it to disappear. It has a sticky on it and I can't get it removed, I asked.
